Lighting

People tend to like lighting. Plenty of light is required when there is detailed work to do, such as in an office, or when working on an engine vehicle. Once the workday is over and it is time to relax, subdued lighting helps to ease the nerves that were strained during the course of the day. When the time for romance has arrived, lighting by candles often come into play. So it is any wonder that people will also want to ensure the patio has proper lighting for all occasions? Here are some basic ideas on how to create the right lighting effect for your patio area.

Patios are really versatile places. They can be used for all sorts of gatherings, which means that you need to be prepared to handle a variety of lighting situations. For instance, there is the everyday use that your family may make of the patio. In the evenings, the last family mean of the day may take place on the patio. In this instance, you will want to have a source of lighting that provides plenty of illumination for a casual meal. Corner lamps may to the trick if your patio is not covered. If you do have a covered area, an overhead light source is the ideal solution. While you could wire the patio for an overhead light fixture, you could also install a hook and suspend a hanging lamp above the table, and plug the lamp into an existing outside outlet. You get the same results, and also have the option of changing out your lighting fixture without a lot of trouble from time to time.

Of course, you may want to do some mood lighting for a backyard dinner party as well. You can use lamps placed at strategic spots all around the patio, so there is plenty of light to see and enjoy the party, but not any strong glaring lights. The subdued lighting will make the party a little more intimate and will encourage people to gather in small groups for conversation.

Romance on the patio is also a possibility. Forget the overhead lighting and turn on the pool lights and then light some candles for your lighting scheme. That will provide plenty of atmosphere for you to enjoy a glass of wine with your beloved as well as encourage the mood of romance in the air. Plus, you really don’t want the neighbors to see what the two of your are doing anyway.
