Merry Go Round

Riding on a merry go round is something that just about every person can remember from their childhood. When the traveling carnivals came to town, a lot of the rides were to scary for the younger kids, but the merry go round was always there to provide a reasonable thrill or two. In many ways, that merry go round from younger days also set the pace for the many other merry go rounds we would experience later in life.

Of course, the biggest merry go round of them all is the merry go round of life. Many songs and books have described the sum total of living as being akin to riding on that merry go round. At times, things are up in the air and other times as low as they can be. Still we just keep on going around. Occasionally, we found the merry go round broke down, but only for a short time. Once some wounds were healed and some changes made, the merry go round horse would be ready for another ride. Sometimes we thought of the entire experience more as a merry & hell go round when the chips were down, but ultimately the whole process would become fun once more. Maybe that is why so many folks use the crazy merry go round as a metaphor for living. They do have a lot in common.

Along with riding on those wonderful on Savin Rock merry go round machines of years ago, we also loved to have our pictures taken while riding on the merry go round. In a time when it was hard to get a clear shot of something in motion, it could be quite a trick to capture us as we went around the merry go round and get merry go round photos that fully illustrated our glee at the ride we were on. Still, somehow people would manage and the result is seeing those old pictures and rekindling lots of wonderful childhood memories.

Fortunately, the merry go round is still with us today. There are still carnivals that travel the countryside from spring to fall, and they still always have a merry go round that is ideal for not only the kids, but also couples who think that being on a merry go round is not only fun, but also romantic. Why not check and see when the next traveling carnival will be hitting town? It has been a long time since you had a ride on a merry go round and you are more than due for a little fun. Don’t let the merry go round pass you by. Climb on and enjoy the ride.
